Success starts with taking responsibility for our actions. Successful people take responsibility for their actions. They don’t blame people. They blame themselves. So, if you want to change things that are not working for you, if you want to really fix the mess that you have created in your life, take responsibility. Hold yourself accountable for what you have done to yourself and the people around you.

There is power in taking responsibility for your actions. It gives you control over your life. But if you blame other people for what you have done to yourself, you are giving your power away. You are telling them ‘to control you.’ You are telling them to help you fix your problems. Look, if they manage to help you, who do you think will be the master? To be your own master, to control your life, take responsibility to fix your own mess. Don’t give the key to your life to anyone. No matter what, hold on to it.

Let us see what Pat Summitt says about the art of taking responsibility:

Accountability is the essential to personal growth, as well as team growth. How can you improve if you are never wrong? If you don’t admit a mistake and take responsibility for it, you are bound to make the same mistake again.”- Pat Summitt, coach

To grow in life, in your career, in your relationships with good people, you MUST learn how to say, “I am sorry.” This is the issue with lots of people, including myself. If you make a mistake, admit it. Don’t try to defend yourself. If you do, you are making the situation worse for yourself, because the person you are dealing with is not going to be happy with you. In order to avoid that, you must be very good at admitting a mistake. That is the only way out of trouble. It is not easy to do. Learn how to say ‘you are sorry.’ Practice it. Make it a habit, and you will overcome it.

“If you don’t want responsibility, don’t sit in the big chair. To be successful, you must accept full responsibility.”- Pat Summitt, coach

If you want to achieve success in life, you MUST learn how to take responsibility. No one will take it for you. Responsibility is holding yourself accountable for your failures and successes. It means you are responsibility for your life. It means you are answerable to yourself. It means you are the one who is in control of your life. If you want to do great things, learn how to take responsibility.

“Responsibility equals accountability equals ownership. And a sense of ownership is the most powerful weapon a team or organization can have.”- Pat Summitt, coach

When you take responsibility for your actions, it means you are the OWNER of your life. It means you are in control of your life. It means you are the one driving your life. It means you are ready to take the rough rough road to success. A sense of ownership is what you need to succeed in life. Whatever you do, own it.

Success Is Not Character

Character is character. Your character is who you are, not what you have. You can be successful and have a bad character. You can also be very poor (financially) and have a great character. Success is success. Character is character.

If you are a successful person with great character, people will want to be around you. People like to be around men and women with great character. People with great character are attractive. It doesn’t matter how they look, where they live, and how they speak, if you have great character, you will attract the same people with great character into your life.

“Your character is who you are, not what you have.”

If you are successful and you don’t have character that brings people closer to you, you are not a successful person. If you have nothing (in terms of finance) and your character is good, you are a successful person.

If you have character, you have everything. If you don’t have character, you have nothing. Character brings success. Lack of character brings failure.

You can build great character. it is not too late. Here is how you can do that:

Start thinking positively about people. Treat people with respect and dignity. Be ethical. Say what you want to do and do it. Put the needs of other people first. It does not mean you have to starve to death. Practice those things every day. It is not going to happen overnight. It is going to take time. Be patient.

Success is what you have, and character is who you are. Period.
