It is easier to maintain bad habits than to change them. Habits are what we do everyday without knowing that we are doing it. It is a quiet guy, but dangerous.
To change from bad to good habits, make sure what you are replacing it with something bigger and better than what you are eliminating. If not, it will be difficult to change. Don’t try to eliminate it overnight. It takes more than overnight to form bad habits. If you really want to eliminate your bad habit, be patient. Yes, be patient. It is easier to form than to eliminate. You can do it!
Aristotle famously said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.”
What you do every day will determine how far you can go in life. If you spend time with productive people, you will be productive. If you spend time with lazy people, you will be lazy. If you want to succeed in life, if you want to reach your full potential, you need to change what is not working for you.
To do that, here are some strategies that will help you:
Replace the bad habit with a good one.
Don’t feed a bad habit. Starve it to death
Feed the good habit by repeating it every day.
Follow through. When you start it, make sure you remind yourself why you are doing it.
Be positive. Always tell yourself, “I can do it.”
Be patience. To change habits is much more difficult than to form it.
As you plan for tomorrow, as you plan to change your life, as you plan to change your business, as you plan to change your job, as you plan to change your situation, make sure you have what it takes to get there.
“Change takes time.”
Assess yourself. Make
sure you check yourself for your strengths and weaknesses. Make sure you are
ready to make the change that you want to make. Don’t change anything when you are not ready. Don’t change because
people ask you to change. You change your life when you are ready. It is never too late to change what you
don’t like in your life. It is never too late to modify what is not working well
for you. It is never too late to maintain what is working for you.
Keep and maintain what is working for you. People try to change when they are not ready. If you are not ready and you jump into changing your life, for sure, you will mess up. Change takes time. Change is difficult. Change is inevitable. We are changing every day. But before you change, make sure you are changing for the right reasons. And if you are changing for the right reasons, be patient. Change is not going to happen overnight.
“Don’t change because people ask you to change.”
Ask yourself: “Do I
have what it takes to achieve my goals? If not, “How am I going to develop the
skills to realize my dreams?”
Changing your life is
important. Whether you like it or not, you are changing every day, and you will
continue to change. If you are not
changing, you are dying. If you are
not adding value to your life, you are taking value away from your life. If you
are not moving, you are staggering. If you don’t have a plan, you are
wandering. If you don’t know where you are going, you are confused.
Know when to change,
know what to change, know how to change it, and change it.
