The Right Environment

The right environment is an environment where you are surrounded by positive, disciplined, supportive, and committed people. No one succeeds alone; you need people to help you grow and develop.

No matter how good or smart you are, without the right system- that is, the right leader, the right coworkers, the right manager, the right mentor, the right customers, and the right stakeholder, you will find it difficult to do very well. The right environment is what people need in order to do well in life. The right environment is what people need in order to grow. Without the right environment, no matter how intelligent you are, you will struggle to succeed. For example, when you place a person who is really talented in the wrong environment, his or her talent will start to deteriorate. On the other hand, when you place the same person or a person with an average intelligence in the right environment and in the right job, they will do very well. So if you want to do well, look for the right environment and the right job. The right environment is the key to a sustainable growth.

As Earl Nightingale once said, “Our environment, the world in which we live and work, is a mirror of our attitudes and expectations.”

We now live in a world where we expect everybody to be a superstar. The question that nobody is asking is: “Do we have the right system in place to help people succeed?” In other words, do we have the right environment for people to grow? Do we have the right environment for people to explore? Do we have the right environment for people to take risks? Do we have the right environment for people to bring out the best in themselves? Do we have them?

If people are not doing well in their jobs, it does not mean that they are stupid or that they are not intelligent enough to handle the job. They are smart. They don’t have the right tools; and they are in the wrong place. For managers, it is important to ask yourselves the following questions before you think of firing anyone:

  • Are they in the right environment?
  • Are they working with the right people?
  • Are they doing the right job?
  • Do they have the right skills to complete the job?
  • Do they need further training?
  • Do they need a mentor?

If you want to enjoy your job, you need the right environment to excel. If not, read the quote below:

According to B. F. Skinner, a renowned psychologist, “If you are old, don’t try to change yourself, change your environment.”

If you don’t like where you are working right now, you have three options:

  1. Change the job, if possible.
  2. Change how you think about your job.
  3. Leave the company. It is up to you.

Remember, there is no such thing as a perfect environment. It is how you think about where you are now that makes it perfect or imperfect. I strongly encourage you to make it perfect.

Do Something About It

“We cannot change anything until we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses.”- Carl  Jung

When you complain about your situation, you are weakening yourself. When you do something about your situation, when you take action about your situation, you are growing yourself. Instead of complaining about your situation, take action. Do something about it. Why complain when the key to your life is in your own hand? Do something about it. Do it yourself. Do not delegate your life to anyone. If you do, the bus will take you to a different direction.

If you are not satisfied with where you are now, if you are not satisfied with your job, if you are not satisfied with your health, if you are not satisfied with your relationships, do something about them. Stop complaining. Nobody is listening to you. When you are ready to take action, people will join you. There is always support when you are ready. Maya Angelou said,”If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”

If you don’t like something,  change it. If you can’t change it,  change your attitude.”-  Maya Angelou

If you don’t like your situation, change it. You can change it because the key to your life is in your OWN hand. Handle it well. Don’t look elsewhere for solutions. The power to change your life, the power to change your situation is within you.

This is big. If you can’t change your situation, change your attitude. Yes, it is true, because there are certain things that are beyond our control. But we have the power to change how we view the world around us. We have the power to change how we think about our situations. We can ALWAYS, always control how we react to situations. If this is you, it is time to change how you look at your situation. Change your attitude, change how you see yourself, and your situation will change. Everything starts in the mind. If you change how you think about things, the things you think about will change. Change your mind to change your situation. In Maya Angelou’s words: “Nothing will happen unless you do.” Nothing will change unless you change it. Do not complain, take action.

All Together:

Do not complain, take action. Do something production to change your situation. Once you have decided to change, the world will support you.
