How To Avoid Being A Workaholic

It is a good thing to work, but it is not good to do it too much. In today’s society, you are celebrated if you work 100 hours a week. But is it really good for you to be a workaholic? To answer this question, let us see what experts have said about how to enjoy your work.

Ovid, the Roman poet, said, “Take rest; a field that has rested gives a beautiful crop.” According to this quote, more is not better. But our society makes us believe that more is better, fast is better, fast is good, working 120 hours is productive. How ridiculous!

If you really want to do a good job, a job that will make you live longer, a job that will make more money for the company, and/or a job that will change your life and the lives of the people around, you MUST learn how to take rest.

People are addicted to their jobs for many reasons. They want to finish everything before their peers. They want to show to their boss that they have what it takes to be the next leader. They are forced to take their jobs home- whether they like it or not. They are doing it because they want more money. They are doing it because they want to show to their peers what they can do. They are doing it because they want to show to themselves that they are capable of doing more.

The question is: Is being a workaholic sustainable? For how long are we going to keep taking jobs home? What are we going to do about it? The choice is yours. Remember, you always have a choice to make things better.

You can cure your workaholic attitude by setting priorities. You should know what is important, and you should also know what is urgent. Not all that is important is urgent. Not all that is urgent is really important.

You can cure your workaholic attitude by not beating yourself up for not doing enough. It is not always possible to complete everything when you need to complete it. Accept that. It is part of life.

You can cure your workaholic attitude by paying attention to what you are doing. Try to learn more about your project before you start. When you do that, you save yourself from running into more trouble.

You can cure your workaholic attitude by acknowledging the fact that more is not better, that fast is not better, and that more is not quality. If you know that, you will not subject yourself to unnecessary stress.

Finally, if you cannot do any of the above things, learn how to meditate, exercise, eat right, have a good sleep, talk to good people, relax, listen to good music, or read some great books. And if you have to bring your project home, take rest before you start. If you run into trouble while doing it, don’t hold back, reach out to someone who can help you. With that, I submit to you to balance your work-life. I can’t do it for you, only you can do that for yourself.
