What does it mean to take risks? What does it even mean to take smart risks? Why is it so important to take calculated risks? Why are people scared to take risks?
To be successful, you must take smart risks. It doesn’t matter what your circumstances are, what your feelings are, or what your thoughts are, you must take smart risks. You cannot grow without taking smart risks.
When planning to take risks, it is important to know what you are getting yourself into. Before you take risks, you must do your homework, you must weigh the benefits and risks involved in what you are planning to do, and you must prepare yourself for the unknown. The fear of the unknown is why people are so scared to venture out of their comfort zones.
No matter what is happening in your life, no matter where you are, no matter what you are currently doing, to move forward, to leave your dream killing zone (aka comfort zone), you must take smart risks.
Most people don’t succeed in life because they are chronically scared to try new things. They don’t take enough risks. No matter how smart you think you are, no matter how fancy your plan is, you must act on it. You must take risks. You must leave your comfort zone.
Here is what happens when you have the gut to take risks:
When you take risks, you are moving forward. You are not moving backward. It moves you closer to your goals. But if you refuse to risk anything, you can’t gain anything of value. Your life will remain the same. Nothing will change because you refused to change your thoughts. If you change your thoughts, your life will change.
When you take risks, it draws you into the unknown territories, which have the potential to change your life.
But if you fail to take risks, guess what? You are safe. You don’t need to worry yourself about anything. You will not fail. You have nothing to lose.
No, that is not true! You have something to lose: YOUR FUTURE.
Here are the reasons people don’t take risks and what to do about them:
They have no clear plan.
To take smart risks, you must have a clear plan. You must know where you are going. Your plan is your road map. You need a plan to be successful. Make your plan simple.
They want to be comfortable before they start.
You don’t have to be comfortable before you take risks. Take risks when your desire to do something is really hot. Successful people take risks, even when they feel terrible.
They don’t believe in themselves.
Self -belief is critical to personal and professional development. If you want to be successful, you must believe in yourself. You must believe in your abilities to get stuff done. If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody will believe in you. And if people don’t believe in you, they won’t trust you. As Henry Ford once said, “If you think you can do it, you are right. If you think you can’t, you are also right.”
They have a negative mindset.
People don’t take risks because they don’t believe they will work. They believe they don’t have what it takes to succeed. If you want to succeed, you must have a positive mindset. You must see things through a positive lens, not a negative lens.
They feel inadequate.
When you think you are not good enough to do something, your dream is half defeated. People don’t want to leave where they are, what they are currently doing, because they feel inadequate. They feel they don’t have what it takes to make it in life. The good news is, you have what it takes to succeed. Just believe in yourself and your abilities to get things done.
They live in the wrong environment.
The people you meet on a daily basis have the power to influence your decision. If you associate yourself with the wrong crowd, you will get the wrong results. When you live in an environment where people are comfortable with the status quo, you will be comfortable with the status quo. They will always talk you out of your dreams. They are there to keep you in their cycle. So if you want to change your situation, you must take a different route to your destination.
Do your own things. Live your own life. Work on your own goals, and you will be a “victor,” not a “victim.”
Do you want to grow? Do you want to change your situation? Do you want to be a better person? If so, take smart risks.
