What we say, what we do, and how we see ourselves have the power to change how we live our lives. The question is, “How do you see yourself?” What are you saying to yourself?
Do you see yourself as powerful, productive, and optimistic? Or,
Do you see yourself as worthless, unproductive, and boring?
Regardless of how you’ve been thinking about yourself, from now on, say these four things to yourself every day before you go to work:
I Love Myself.
Remember, your first assignment here on earth is to love yourself. You can’t love other people without first loving yourself. It is not possible. Love yourself so that you can love others. You can’t give what you don’t have. You have to have love to be able to give love to others. Self-love is so important to our personal and professional development. According to Barbara De Angelis, “You never lose by loving. You always lose by holding back.” If you love people, you will always win. If you love yourself, you will also win. But if you deny people from enjoying your love, you will lose. Love and be loved.
I Accept Myself.
A lot of people don’t accept themselves for the way they are. They accept how people want them to be. They accept how people want them to behave. They hold strongly to what people say about them. How terrible!
The only way to correct this madness is to accept yourself, regardless of how you look, how you behave, or how you live your life. You should know that you are the owner of your life. Nobody owns you. You own yourself. If you want to enjoy your life, it starts with self-acceptance. Accept yourself without anything attached to it. You are unique. You are special. Nobody is like you. Dr. Maxwell Maltz once said, “Accept yourself as you are. Otherwise you will never see opportunity. You will not feel free to move toward it; you will feel you are not deserving.”
I Know Myself.
Do you really know yourself? Do you know what you are good at? Do you know what you are not good at? Do you know what is important to you?
“Our self-image, strongly held, essentially determines what you become.”- Dr. Maxwell Maltz, MD
“Believe you can and you are halfway there.”- Theodore Roosevelt, 26th US President
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Socrates said, “Know Thyself.” What does it mean to “know thyself?”
It means to be honest with yourself.
It means to face the realities of life without trying to change it.
It means to understand your position in life.
It means to know your mission, your purpose in life.
It means to know your strengths and weaknesses.
It means to treat your values with respect.
It is important for us to know ourselves because, according to John Dewey, “The self is not something ready-made, but something in continuous formation through choice of action.”
I Believe in Myself.
If you believe in yourself, there is nothing you cannot achieve. Success starts with self-belief. If you believe in yourself, other people will believe in you and follow you to the gate of hell. Louisa May Alcott said, “He who believes is strong; he who doubt is weak. Strong convictions precede great actions.”
If you believe in yourself, you are strong. You can take on anything. You can do anything.
But if you doubt yourself, you have defeated yourself. You have planted the seed of fear and doubt in your mind. Believe you can do anything, and you can. Norman Vincent Pearle once said, “Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.”
Believe in yourself.
Believe in your abilities.
Be bold. Be fearless, but be respectful.
Work hard. Work smart.
Success will come to you.
Finally, words are strong and powerful. So be careful what you say to yourself. If you want to say something to yourself, let it be something positive, let it be something inspirational. Positive words are what your mind is craving for. Feed your mind with positive words, and your world will change for good. Are you ready to start saying positive things to yourself? If you are ready, start today.
