Two Things That Prevent People From Doing The Things They Were Created To Do, And How To Move Past Them

What is holding you back? What is preventing you from doing the things you want to do? What is preventing you from traveling to the other side of the world? What is preventing you from taking that course? What is preventing you from accepting that offer? What is preventing you from buying a new car? What is preventing you from reaching out to your neighbor? What is holding you back?

Sometimes what we think is holding us back is not really what is holding us back. They are either from the inside of us or from our environment. They are either within your control or out of your control. They are either changeable or unchangeable. They are either new or old things.

In moving forward, it is your responsibility to ask yourself the following questions:

Can I change these things that are preventing me from moving forward?

Are these things that are preventing me from moving forward within me or without me?

Are these things new or old?

Can I control them or not?

Before we go further, let me tell you the two critical things that hold us back (if we allow them to).

They are our thoughts and our circumstances. Some examples of your thought are the things you say to yourself: “I am not good enough.” Or “I am not capable enough.” And examples of circumstances are yourself, a lack of a better education, and your beliefs. Sometimes our spouses can also prevent us from reaching our goals. How? They will not support you. They will plant the seed of fear into your mind. They will give you multiple examples why it won’t work. They will talk you out of your dreams.

If the things that are holding you back are changeable, change them. But if they are not changeable, don’t waste your time trying to change what you can’t change, move on to design your own strategies to conquer these demons. You also need to understand that it is not going to be easy. It won’t happen overnight. Be patient.

To break free from what has been holding you back, do these things:

Assess yourself.

Through a comprehensive self-assessment, you will find out what your strengths and weaknesses are. You will know whether or not you can change what you are planning to change.

Change your thoughts.

If you want to be better than others in your career, if you want to achieve more than others, you must change your thoughts from negative to positive. Negative thoughts are toxic. Positive thoughts are the food for the soul.

Associate yourself with courageous and positive people.

I know sometimes it is hard to abandon people you have been with for your entire life. But if you want to succeed, you don’t need people who will talk you out of your dreams. You don’t need negative people. You need positive people. You need people who will stand by you when the going gets harder. You don’t need people who are wandering aimlessly through life. If you can avoid these blood suckers, you will be surprised at how far you can go.

Design a clear path to where you want to be.

You know where you are going, right? You know your plan. You know how you are going to get there. If you drag with you people who are not in support of your dreams, trust me, you will fail. You need people who will help you grow, not those who will talk you out of your dreams.

Have a clear sense of purpose.

To make it in life, you don’t need to be a wanderer, you need to have a reason or reasons to exist. You must have reason to wake you up every day. A sense of purpose is like a guide to you. When your purpose is clear, no matter how tough life is, you will have the energy to stay in the game of life, and play it very well.

Reach out for help.

If you don’t know what to do, reach out for help. You are not alone in your journey to success. People have done what you are planning to do. Reach out to them. When you are ready, the world is ready to help you. Pocket your ego.

Finally, no matter what, always be a forward-looking person. No matter how tough life is to you, remain positive and believe in yourself.
