When we hear the world success, the first thing that comes to mind is material success. Success means different things to different people. When it comes to success, “it is not a one size fits all.”
To me, success means to be able to live your life your own way. To add to my definition of success, let’s look at what others have said about success:
“Success is achieved and maintained by those who try and keep trying.”- W. Clement Stone
Nobody can achieve success without trying. You have to try to succeed. Success doesn’t come to you, you have to go search for it. Once you have achieved success, in order to keep and maintain it, you must double your effort. You must increase your level of discipline. You must increase your level of focus. You must increase your level of determination. If not, success can easily slip away.
“Too often the shortcut, the line of least resistance, is responsible for evanescent and unsatisfying success.”- Louis Binstock
In life, there are two ways to success. 1) The popular way. 2) The unpopular way.
Which way are you going to take to your destination? I strongly recommend you to take the unpopular way. Why? The unpopular way is where you are going to learn new experiences. The unpopular way is where the real opportunities are. The unpopular way is for fewer people, not for everybody. It is for the bold. It is for the determined people who want to succeed. It is not for the confused and faint-hearted people. In contrast, the popular way is where you find the confused, the procrastinators, the aimless wanderers, the imitators, and the faint-hearted people. That is why it is so crowded. If you want to climb to the top of your career, don’t follow the crowd- find your own path.
“Success is a state of mind. If you want success, start thinking yourself as a success.”- Dr. Joyce Brothers, psychologist
Sure, success is a state of mind. If you want success, you must do things that will draw you closer to your goal. But it starts with how you think about yourself and your situation. If you want greatness, you must start to think in great ways. You must maintain a positive state of mind. You attract what you want into your life. If you think in positive ways, positive things will come to you. In contrast, if you think in negative ways, guess what? Negative things will come to you. Always try to stay positive.
“The fastest way to succeed is to look as if you’re playing by somebody else’s rules, while quietly playing by your own.”- Michael Korda, writer
When we start to do new things, the first attempt is what we copy from the people we admire. But if you continue to apply their strategies to your own projects, to your work, to your life, you will start to get the same results. Imitation is not bad. As you continue to imitate, don’t forget to start to look for your own voice. It is your voice that will guarantee you the life you are desperately searching for. Until then, keep imitating.
“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”- Winston Churchill
Successful people know how to fail forward. They love to fail. But they also know how to get back up and do what they do best. Success and failure live in the same area. If you want success, you should be ready to start failing. Yes, start failing now!
“The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire; the size of your dream; and how you handle disappointment along the way.”- Robert Kiyosaki, entrepreneur
If your desire to succeed is bigger and stronger than the obstacles in your way, you will succeed. And if you see disappointment as a temporary issue, nothing can stop you from reaching your destination. No matter what, always try to be positive.
“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”- Robert Collier, self-help author
Success doesn’t happen overnight. Success doesn’t happen by accident. Success comes to those who prepare for it. Success slides away from those who are not prepared. If you want to be successful, you must develop the habit of preparing for the little things. It is the little things that you do every day that bring success to you. For example, if you want to be a writer and you start to write every day, in one year, you will have written more than three hundred pages of manuscript. If you want to learn how to be a great presenter, start to practice how to communicate every day. In a year or two, you will become an expert presenter. Start today. Start now!
“Your chances of success in any undertaking can always be measured by your belief in yourself.”- Robert Collier, self-help author
Success comes to the people that believe in themselves. If you don’t believe in yourself, you will find it hard to try anything. You will always doubt yourself. You will question your self-worth. You will always question what you can do and cannot do. To be successful, you must believe in yourself. When you believe in yourself, your self-worth goes up, you are confident, you are bold, you take more risks, and you are more focused and optimistic about life. Don’t doubt yourself. Believe in yourself.
“The first principle of success is desire- knowing what you want. Desire is the planting of your seed.”- Robert Collier
If you know what you want, it is easier to arrive at your destination. But if you are a follower, it will take decades to figure things out. If you know what you want to do with your life, pursue it without fear. Pursue it with all your resources.
“There is only one success- to be able to spend your life in your own way.”- Christopher Morley, journalist
The reason we exist is to be able to do what we want. If you can do your own things, in your own way, you are a successful person.
