To get things done in life, we need to be motivated. We need to have the spirit to continue on without giving up. The real issue with motivation is how to stay motivated. There are things that we do that can demotivate us. Below are five ways people can kill their motivation:
Negative Relationships. Negative relationships are not good for motivation. They decrease your motivation. But positive relationships are good and healthy for your motivation. When you have good people around you, people that motivate you, not people that demotivate you, getting things done is really easy. Good people are necessary in your life. In my life, too. We are social animals. We need people to survive. We need to be around very good and productive people. On the contrary, when people, unfortunately, get involved in negative relationships, their preferred coping strategy is to isolate themselves from the person that offended them. You don’t have to disconnect from them. Be you. Know what you want. Connect with the right people, and you will be a happy person.
Self-Doubt. Doubting yourself kills your motivation to do anything. You don’t want to do anything. You think you are not good enough to succeed. Whatever it is that you are pursuing, don’t doubt yourself. Believe you can succeed, and you will succeed. Always believe in yourself. Have confidence in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody will believe in you. Have confidence in your ability to get things done. Success starts with self-belief.
Past Failures. Yes, past failures demotivate people. Past failures demotivate people. Don’t let past failures hold you back. Success starts with failure. You have to fail before you succeed. If everything has been perfect for you, it is time to evaluate what you have been doing. Maybe you are not pushing yourself enough, or you are simply playing it safe. Focus on your assets (strengths). Focus on what you can do now, not on what you did in the past. Don’t waste your brain power thinking about yesterday’s mistakes. Focus on possibilities, not on deficits. You can ALWAYS turn things around.
Lack of Self-Knowledge. If you don’t know who you are, nothing matters. I say nothing matters because, if you don’t know yourself, you will end up pursuing people’s dreams, associating with the wrong people, and just wander through life. If you know yourself, you will know precisely what you want, and you will design your life the way you want it to be. To be happy and be really successful, self-knowledge is the key. If not, self-motivation is a fantasy.
“If you don’t know who you are, nothing matters.”
Unethical Behavior. Bad actions demotivate people when they think about them. They prevent people from taking action, from starting something new. Start to do the right things today, not tomorrow. Do something because it is the right thing to do, not because somebody told you to do it. It feels good to do the right thing.
