“Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal.”- Earl Nightingale

Success is personal. A lot of people want to be successful, but only a few are willing to walk the walk. Success requires more than just talking. It requires more than just dreaming. Success is within your reach when you take intentional actions.

Below are some strategies that will help you achieve your dreams:

Evaluate yourself: Before you think of where you are going, it is important to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. You have to know who you really are. You have to do an honest assessment of yourself. Self assessment will help you figure out what you need to work on. Always maintain your strengths and work on your weaknesses.

“It takes courage…to endure the sharp pains of self discovery rather than choose to take the dull pain of unconsciousness that would last the rest of our lives.” – Marianne Williamson

Consult with experts: Experts will guide you through the process of achieving your dreams. They are important because they have already done what you are planning to do.

“An expert is someone who knows some of the worst mistakes that can be made in his subject, and how to avoid them.”- Werner Heisenberg, physicist.

Set great goals: When setting your goals (short and long term), you have to be realistic. Don’t deceive yourself. Don’t set goals that are too difficult to achieve. Don’t set goals that are too easy to achieve. Set SMART goals. Don’t work on more than one goal at a time. When they are too hard, break them down into manageable pieces. Always write your goals down. Writing them down will help you track your progress. Your goals will determine your actions. They will determine how you make your decisions, and what is important to you.

“People with goals succeed because they know where they are going.”- Earl Nightingale

Avoid distractions: In today’s world, we are struggling with so many distractions, such as technological, social media, and political distractions. Once you have decided what you want to do with yourself, you need to pay attention to what will help you achieve your dreams. Associate with people who are pursuing the same goal, and people that want to be leaders, not followers. Associating with the right people will increase your chances of reaching your goal.

“To be successful in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Be flexible: Flexibility is important because things are changing. What you are doing now may not be there tomorrow. People are changing. The world is changing. Workplaces are changing. Nothing is static. In a changing world, in order to achieve success, be ready to change, be ready to adapt to the new ways of doing things. The goals you are pursuing today may no longer be the ones you will be pursuing tomorrow.

“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.”- Albert Einstein

“Flexibility is the greatest strength.”- Steven Redhead

Check your habits: Ask yourself real questions about your habits (good and bad). Are they helping you? Or, are they setting you up for failure? If they are helping you, continue. But if they are hurting you, and you are finding it difficult to stop, seek help. You have to master the art of fear and procrastination. Know how to manage fear and procrastination. These are the two demons that are taking people’s dreams away.

“You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”– John C. Maxwell

“A man who can’t bear to share his habits is a man who needs to quit them.”- Stephen King

Stretch yourself: Why are we here? Why are we learning, unlearning, and relearning? Why are we pursuing our dreams? The answer is: “to grow.” You cannot grow if you are not willing to stretch yourself. You cannot grow if you are not willing to do what others are not doing. You cannot grow if you are not willing to make yourself uncomfortable. You cannot grow if you are not ready to change your BAD habits. Whether you take the time to reflect on these statements or not, one thing is true: “If you are not stretching, you are shrinking.”In life, we are either growing or dying. People don’t know that they are not growing until it is too late to fix it. To correct these issues, pay attention to how you spend your time, and track your daily progress.

Take the attitude of a student, never be too big to ask questions, never know too much to learn something new.”- Og Mandino, motivational writer

Be a positive thinker: It is important to keep a positive attitude when the journey gets tougher. It is a positive attitude that will help you get through the rough road to success.

“You can, you should, and if you’re brave enough to start, you will.”- Stephen King
